6.1 How to achieve arm coordination (Timing): Theory
We have already analyzed the arm cycle, but we have done it separately. Now it is time to coordinate both arms, which we will call timing.
We can see that the current Olympic champions do not start to propel with one arm until the other is moving forward. Both arms come together in front of the head, but in opposite directions. This way, our body shape is longer, making us more hydrodynamic. Additionally, we can generate a pair of forces that will engage the entire body in propulsion, along with the arm that initiated the grip.

In this video, we will teach you how to use your arms as if they were a bow and arrow. The bow generates the energy and the arrow converts it into speed, but this only happens if the arrow is in the right position. With swimming, the same principle applies. When one arm is propelling, the other should be in the position to move forward.
6. 2 How to achieve arm coordination (Timing): Practice
In this video, you will master the timing. We will perform a swim with a pause of both arms in front of the head, and we will break this pause by moving the arms in opposite directions. One arm advances, and the other propels, and this action must be simultaneous. When you master the swim with a pause, and then eliminate it completely, you’ll find that you’re a faster and more enduring swimmer.
